About Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT)
APT is an Afghan nonprofit youth-led and youth-focused professional organization that works to promote a culture of tolerance, openness, and respect.
APT’s primary focus falls into three categories:
Capacity Building through debate and leadership development programs;
Research and Advocacy through publications, conferences, and media shows;
Networking through exposure trips within Afghanistan and abroad, and APT Alumni community events.
Since APT’s inception in 2010, over twenty thousand university students have attended at least one of its activities. APT’s programs have provided university students with opportunities to engage topics in fields as diverse as democracy, human rights, peacebuilding, leadership, philosophy, and business in a way that allows them to critically appropriate ideas relevant to contemporary issues in Afghanistan and the world. In these activities APT has partnered with over 35 public and private universities across six provinces of Afghanistan (Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Samangan, Badakhshan and Nangarhar), several media stations, and numerous civil society and academic institutions across the world. APT’s long-term goal is to take APT’s message to all 34 provinces within Afghanistan by 2030.
Under this position, the Kandahar Regional Coordinator Assistant will perform the following Responsibilities and report the progress of its’s activities to project manager in Kabul:
Plan, implement and supervise project activities under supervision of Regional Coordinator in Kandahar
Assisting in creating partnerships and sign MoUs (on behalf of APT with universities.
Recruit and train students in debating skills at the universities.
Maintain and strengthen a good and professional relationship with universities and debate clubs.
Assisting RC in Organizing debate tournaments and trainings;
Assisting RC to Establish judges’ committee in Kandahar
Assisting RC to write narrative progress reports and submit them to the Project Manager;
Assist in planning and conducting debate competitions at target universities in Kandahar
Collect the required data for project evaluation and submit to RC;
Cooperate with the RC and hire project Volunteers and Interns;
Maintain an updated assets/inventory record and send updates to RC;
Closely follow provided action plans, and report updates to RC;
Design and prepare project documents and other logistical requirements for project activities;
Filling, reviewing and updating project documents on monthly basis, and submitting to RC;
Archiving records of project activities, beneficiaries and staff and other project data, and report to Project Manager on monthly basis;
Read carefully all office policies and important documents (Financial Policy, HR Policy, Strategic Plan, etc.) And abide within them;
Promote APT’s values and maintain its vision in all debate activities;
Be available for any other tasks that will be assigned by the project manager or executive director.
Must have a bachelor degree from a recognized and registered university – bachelor of Management Studies is preferred
At least 2 years work experience in related field.
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, to meet deadlines.
Ability to build, lead, manage and motivate project team.
Proficiency in computer skills required.
Excellent reporting skills
Accept responsibility and show initiative.
Must be flexible and willing to work for long hours to meet the deadline
Fluent in English, Dari/Pashto.
Have good command of English language both written and spoken.
